Tuamotu - Gambier Archipelagoes the most beautiful lagoons

Located more than 1 700 kilometers east of Tahiti, the Gambier archipelago is a little off the beaten tourist track but its rare atmosphere of history and mystery make the trip worthwhile. Mangareva, one of the islands most distant from Tahiti, is practically the only inhabited island.

Located at the extreme northwest end of the Tuamotus, Mataiva is a small reticulated atoll covered with coconut trees and surrounded by islets such as motu Teaku, better known as the bird motu, which shelters many different sea bird species.

Discovered simultaneously by Maire and Schouten, Takapoto embodies the dream of paradise. Named also short chin, this wild and idyllic atoll has no channel which explains its very preserved environment.

The waters of Rangiroa are abundant with sea life which congregates near the Avarotu Pass, famous for its manta rays, and the Tiputa Pass, also known as '100 Shark Pass'.

This circular shaped atoll, is reckoned to be one of the most full of fish. Peace and quietness have built up the frame of newfound secret harmony between sea and sky.

Manihi's lagoon is a kaleidoscope of magical colors. Her warm waters, perfect for water sports, are also favorable for the production of one of Tahiti and Her Island's strongest symbols, the Tahitian black pearl; world famous for its moonlike beauty.

Located between Rangiroa and Manihi, the Ahe atoll is slowly being discovered by visitors searching for authenticity. Up to date with technology, today Ahe has claimed its place among the leaders in the pearl farming industry. Direct from the lagoon, the pearls of Ahe draw their strength from their tints and exceptional reflections. Scattered all around the atoll, pearl farms are open for guided visits complete with grafting demonstrations.

Second largest atoll after Rangiroa and ancient capital of the Tuamotu archipelago, Fakarava is filled with numerous unexplored « motus » (islets) awaiting new adventurers to discover those pink sand beaches shaded by rows of coconut trees and crystal-clear waters.
